Tomomi Ukumori

Born in Los Angeles, she moved to Tokyo when she was 3. From the time she was a baby, her house was filled with music, and before the time she could speak, it seemed a tune was always coming from her mouth. From a young age she loved bringing happiness to people’s hearts, and one thing that was sure to bring a smile to her was an instrument she began studying at age six. The piano. In elementary school she soaked up the sounds of Michael Jackson and Cindy Lauper, surprising all around her with an ability to impersonate the singers she heard. It was an episode in high school that sparked her interest in pursuing music seriously, she discovered Italian Opera. Since this time, her desire to sing in front of people grew, and after graduating college, she found her self immersed in writing her own songs. She became the lead vocal for Electroambientband, and began her professional foray into the world of music, growing as a lyricist and composer. The starting point for this woman of deep feeling to begin composing her own style of music was the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, in New York. She produced a CD filled with songs hoping for peace, and donated all of the proceeds to RAWA, an organization devoted to helping girls in Afghanistan. After this, she formed the Orchestra pop-unit “Hanacanna,” which created the theme music for movies, TV commercials, and nationwide events (such as flower expos). She has appeared on the popular Disney Channel, and wrote a song, which was broadcast nationwide, encouraging children to draw. This song was included on a CD sold under AVEX, one of Japan’s leading record labels. Although comfortable in many genres of music, starting in 2004, she began to focus on club music, kicking off her “Live Love,” tour. She has performed 6 times so far, and due to her wishes, all have been focused as charity events. These include “Doctors without Borders,” “Sumatra Tsunami Victims Relief Fund" , "Mother Theresa's Orphanage", as well as other volunteer organizations. In 2005 she took her music to the international stage, releasing a few singles with Germany’s L2 Music, as well as entering a song in PROTON Radio’s remix contest. She joined forces with DJ Nob Tee as a vocalist for Dugsoul, and received accolades from the German label Lemongrass. As a result she was offered the chance to create her first compilation album, and laid down some tracks. There is no set form to Tomomi Ukumori’s songs. From pop tunes to soulful dance music, to gentle sounds that would seem right at home in Nature, her music is truly original. In each note of her music, and every word in her lyrics is a strong message, containing the wish that she hopes is fulfilled with each of her songs. That after understanding both the light and the dark in everyone, we can learn to accept them, and to learn how important this is in life. Her message has begun to gain an audience across the ocean, and around the world...
